    Speakers with silver dust caps

The former could have a longer collar and have the VC leads go through the spider instead of the cone. The cone can still attach per usual method, in this configs, the dust cap is for heat dissipation. The former can be coated with enamel like the wire wrapped around it and making the former...

    Speakers with silver dust caps

I?ve also heard about the cooling factor and stand under correction here, though i read many older guitar (pre 70's) and larger guitar amps used them to "ring" at higher frequency?s and add that extra extension toward the top. in a similar way the whizzer cone works. Metal "rings" or resonates...

    Receiver cooling?

If anyone is planning on modifying their cupboard may I suggest the Vantec Freezer?  http://www.vizo.com.tw/front/product/get_product_detail/63/3/1# I personally own 5 of these and cannot fault them. They have a temperature sensor on the exhaust side which measures ambient air drawn through the...

    Receiver cooling?

santoshlv426, you are correct, most commercially made amps that are store bought have all that taken care of. However, please don?t fall into the blissful ignorance of accepting things how they are, Manufacturers almost never have the consumer in mind at a meeting discusing material costs...

    Receiver cooling?

"Heat convection occurs when bulk flow of a fluid (gas or liquid) carries heat along with the flow of matter in the fluid. The flow of fluid may be forced by external processes, or sometimes (in gravitational fields) by buoyancy forces caused when thermal energy expands the fluid (for example in...

    Receiver cooling?

Naughty/ Thank you for doing all that research and providing us with it, BUT how did you get computer cooling from Reciever cooling. The techniques may be similar though it seems a bit odd that you delved so deep into that section, riviting as it may well be. Let me take this time to clarify...

    Receiver cooling?

I would caution against ANY forced cooling in a system without a fan filter of some kind. I used to just slap fans on my PC and then was left to clean it every month otherwise it overheated quicker as the heat forms under a "blanket" on componants that need air to stay cool. Put a appripriatly...

Subwoofer Tip - For the Corner

The bass "tightening" is the resonant frequancy of the enclosure being raised. A port does nothing more than allow a smaller volum'd enclosure to be used than a sealed enclosure would need to be. for instance. a sealed 100L cab @ 30Hz can be made 30Hz @ 50L with a port.

    Soldering...

From Personal experience... Gas usually heats up in less than 30 sec, the general stick type usually need 2-5min Gas is bulkier around the tip and the effect of having the catalyst near the tip (the part that turns the butane into hot air) means the hot gas used to heat the tip "warms"...

Best way to raise a set of floor standers

IMHO a Brick wrapped nicely may be the most effective, Why are they slipping off. Are you changing the angle or just raising them? Adding weight on top of the enclosure is a old "mod" to hinder unwanted resonance. Be careful with the spikes  being plastic and extra weight being added.

    Handy Hints.

I once fixed a stripped thread in a plastic toy using a soldering iron. Heat up the head of the screw for very short periods and turn the screw a tenth and repeat, work wonders. Make sure the screw is in the hole, from what i can tell, plastic melts around the screw and turning it releases it...
