Definitely not a Field Coil driver. Its an Alnico magnet i.e. permanent magnet driver (Utah, Jensen or some such) with the impedance matching transformer (amp output transformer) mounted next to it. HTH WM

Good well designed Field Coil drivers have no hum. They use either a shading ring, typically solid copper, or a hum bucking coil. WM

Yeah there is a lot of data in the AVO data handbooks - so bound to be some errors - I have picked up a few in my AVO MkIII book as well. WM

Experimentation is fine but if you want a 'long term' fix then you need to get the correct Mylar/Polyester film and the correct coating (one that will last and not slowly degrade over time) The problem with cling film is that it does not hold its tension and is thermally unstable - IOW...

Yep and wallpaper paste also works well if one is wanting cheap conductive materials. Graphite spray is too low a resistance normally. WM
