A Bright Shining Lie… Why ignoring an inconvenient truth is stifling system performance.

Sarel did an excellent blog on youtube on room acoustics and other things. https://www.youtube.com/@sarelwagner/videos

Official approval (local Goernment) for solar installation?

Their lack of qualified staff is not my problem. They are paid, well, to ensure that the processes are managed. "Ek is jammer om van jou kak te hoor". It extends a little further however. As a private citizen in my own home I will install whatever I want to install and I alone will live with...

MQA rescued by owner of NAD and Bluesound

Agreed. Comes down to how you choose to reference. When in doubt I do blind listening with a friend/wife/companion dog doing the A/B switching. When I get more than a 60/40 split in preference then I go with my ears. It's a quick and simple way to avoid listening to equipment, or sample rates...

MQA rescued by owner of NAD and Bluesound

Just goes to show. I find Apple music terrible to be honest (that was a while ago to be honest) and also made the switch from Deezer to Tidal some time ago for similar reasons! Go figure. As for recommendations - maybe I have been clouded by teaching Tidal not to give me rap. And that's pretty...

MQA rescued by owner of NAD and Bluesound

It is interesting to hear (sorry, see) the various responses. As with most matters audio you make your choices and how you come to those is purely personal. I enjoy Tidal - it delivers an adequate source quality for me that is to my ears anyway, superior and getting better as bandwidth and size...

    Portable/rechargable bluetooth speaker recommendations

Depends on volume levels you want. I have a Beosound A1 - these can be paired into stereo (buy one now get the second one later). Decent battery life and not too shabby in performace from a bluetooth wireless.

How many of you like the sound system in your car?

Sound in cars has improved massively over the years. It's in the nature of what I do - and there are some impressive systems as standard on offer. Sure you might need to drop 6.5 bar on a Bentley to get to a Naim system that is deeply impressive as an extra cost option. Of immediate reference...

    Johannesburg Fringe Hifi Experience 8 July 2023 - #JHBFHE

It was fun to see - pity I couldn't stay longer. I enjoy shows very much as it is an opportunity to see new kit and to hear new things - I personally can't do it critically but it is always interesting to see the pairings, and to hear new music. The Frenchies made an impression - I shall maybe...

    submarine lost at sea

I would not have thought that the temperature difference of the internal air would make much difference to 400atms on the outside and 1 or 2 atm on the inside. My suspicions are that carbon fibre, when it lets go, does do quickly and down there it would have been within a fraction of a second...

    Stand alone streamers

I reviewed the BluSound Node and did a three way shoot out with two other streamers (Apple and Cambridge). The results surprised me - the Apple was the loser. Between the Node and the Cambridge two of us had a near perfect 50/50 selection as to which was playing, and so I bought the Node and my...
