    My brother had a similar predicament, but it was (presumably) a much older version. The sub amp was triggered/turned on by a 5V signal via a 3.5mm input, so I made him a USB to 3.5mm cable that plugs into the new AVR (I think it was/is a Onkyo NR575 - which seems to be a LOT more expensive now...
