I'm trying to decide which one of my two spare turntables to sell and which one to keep. The choice is between a Thorens TD105 mk2 with a AT-VM95ML, and a Thorens TD165 with a Grado Blue3. Both have new belts, both have damped plinths and both sound superb. The question is :- which do I keep and...
I have the same cartridge available with a VN 35 E stylus that I imported from Thakker towards the end of last year if you're interested. Used it for a month, then upgraded to an AT VM95 ML.
The width of the turntable is the measurement of the front from left to right. The depth is the measurement from front to back. The height of the cover to clear the tonearm I would need 3.5". Hinges at the back would be a bonus, but an alternative plan could be made.
After running the ML stylus for almost 2 weeks, I'm very chuffed and impressed. Having set up the E stylus on the Lofgren geometry, I just swapped it with the ML without any changes. Huge improvement in detail, sound stage depth and focus. Definitely made the right choice.
I have the same cartridge in my collection that you can have if you want, free. No stylus though, but you will have to arrange collection from me in Durban
