Vintage Philips Woofers for Subwoofer Project?

I've got 2 vintage (50 yr old) Philips 1256/W8 (12") drivers and an itch to make a subwoofer. I'm not aiming for head banging bass, rather something that can fill that 15 to 30hz range...think pipe organ. I know these drivers have a low free air resonance...some literature says 15hz others 19hz...

Kenwood Vintage Amp - Left Channel Failure

Ha! Traced the issue. The rear switch for 4 channel had completely failed. Have bypassed. Good for another 45 years. Sent from my SM-A205F using Tapatalk

Kenwood Vintage Amp - Left Channel Failure

Thanks for all the pointers: 1. The view that that power amp section and power transistors must be ok seems logical as I can reverse the channels and get the left speaker playing 2. Its always the L channel that is out across all inputs (Aux 1, Aux2, Tape, Tuner, Phono, etc) 3. Don't think its...

Kenwood Vintage Amp - Left Channel Failure

Hi All, I've got a mid-70's high spec (KA 8006) integrated amp which I fully recapped successfully just over a year ago (thread elsewhere on this forum). Its been working flawlessly until about 2 weeks ago when occasionally the left channel would drop out completely. A light tap on the unit...

Chord Mojo - worth the hype?

Thanks. So the Mojo is GBP400...that would be the benchmark.

Chord Mojo - worth the hype?

I hate having to purchase something as subjective as hifi products without auditioning, but in this case I don't have a choice. I'm looking for a DAC that can do duty both as a main system one and as a portable device. The Chord Mojo seems to fit the bill and gets rave reviews from the UK press...

Philips 22RH499 Speakers - Restoration Project

It's taking forever but progress is being made and I'm happy with the approach being taken [url=https://postimg.cc/xJ2CcLT3]

Philips 22RH499 Speakers - Restoration Project

Good observations  :2thumbs: 1. Yes, there is a back cover for the mids and tweeters which I had already removed at time of the pic. There is also a glass wool piece that sits in that 7 litre section. So this section is isolated from the main cabinet. 2. When I received the speakers a few...

Philips 22RH499 Speakers - Restoration Project

Here is a very interesting view on speaker rigidity which related back to the 'timbre' that marantz123 referred to. https://www.harbeth.co.uk/usergroup/forum/the-science-of-audio/speaker-design/215-bbc-style-thin-wall-cabinets-why-so-special

Philips 22RH499 Speakers - Restoration Project

The reason I'm staying away from the dog blanket option is that, from my research, this reduces the internal volume of the cabinet which will then affect the sonic qualities. These units were designed with a thick glass wool covering the back panel. This should reduce standing waves. The paint...

Philips 22RH499 Speakers - Restoration Project

Have you used it inside cabinets, if so do you think it made a positive difference?

Philips 22RH499 Speakers - Restoration Project

Does anyone have a view on treating the inside of the speaker cabinet to further reduce cabinet resonance. I was thinking of a thick paint, like that used to line the bin of a bakkie. This would be in additional to the glass fibre 'wool' which is there for damping.
