Post by: Rotten Johnny on January 03, 2011, 04:36:37 PM
Anyone know where I get my hands on a decent SPL at a reasonable price?

I desperately tried to get hold of a SPL meter last year, but could not find one locally. Fortunately, I've got some good friends in the US and asked a buddy to buy a SPL meter from Radioshack and post it to me. The price was about $45. I highly recommend a SPL meter for setting the sound levels in a home theatre system.

If you are in CT , I  have a good one (havent used it for yonks , hope it works) and I can loan it to you - otherwise I think you might be able to hook up a mic to a soundcard and then use that as one - even better you could do room analysing real well that way - assuming thats what you want to do...

I think the Radioshack ones are also available on eBay

Handheld with range 60db to 120db with A and C weighting, fast and slow response.  There is an RCA output, bought it but then bought the XTZ software/hardware combo.  Available for R300.00

Thx for the offer Rodney, in JHB unfortunately.  I'm wanting to configure a sub for my TV room, hence the need for an SPL meter.
