DAC Playback
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:22:19 pm »
I was playing some test sweeps up to 20 kHz via my DAC and once the tone got above 10 kHz (my upper limit at 62 years old..)  it was interesting to hear low level sweeping tones in my 'inband'. I presume these are artifacts of the DAC process. Anyone noticed anything similar? :o

Try the same with pure sine tones! ;D I think there was a link or so a month or two back with a reference to websites where you can play back these tones.

What DAC are you running and where did you find the tones?
Perhaps one of us can give it a go.
I used to have SUPER POWERS.
But my therapist took them away. :vsad:

Your speakers are at slightly different distances from you, so they interfere with each other seemingly creating louder and softer bits of new frequencies?
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

I tried your test tones on my laptop via Foobar and some shockingly bad R80 headphones. (By no means a reference system then.)
Anyway, I did hear the lower level sweeps you mentioned though. You can also see it on the spectrograph that Foobar shows. It seems each new freq tone start and ends with lower freq build-up and trial-off. So...no worries, its just an artifact in the actual recording. :) I also down-loaded the Nuforce tones, nothing like that on those.
