Thanks Naughty. So I will still need to keep the digital cable for the sound I presume.
Maybe its the video cable that's causing the flickering? I am going to buy a component cable today and will report back on the difference.

Thks for the info Naughty- its helped a lot. The only other thing I've noticed recently is that I get a noticeable flickering around the edges of the various menu boxes when I have the dvdp on but with no disk inserted. Perhaps a sign of the cable on the way out?

This might be "interlace flicker" - most obvious on thin horizontal lines. It comes about when objects are so thin as to be present in only one field of the interlaced TV frame. Because such objects occur in only one field, you see them 25 times a second, instead of 50 times a second - that is slow enough to notice the flicker.

It may be the DVD player switches to interlace mode with no disc present, and only operates in progressive-scan mode once a disc is present - hence the disappearance of the flickerig with a disc inserted.

Thanks- that could be the case. I will test it with a dvd's menu page and see if its any different.
