Consider having the face-plates spray-painted with 2K automotive lacquer in vibrant colors...

Me again

latest drawing:

http://www.mediafire.com/?cvuk0iasr20qb0l

Changes

2 new parts added. a strengthening panel for the 95mm enclosure and a strengthening panel for the 135mm enclosure.

The top of this panel will push against the lid so no more issues with weight on the lid.
You will need to add a bolt to the bottom of the front plate to make sure enclosure is sturdy with heave transformers. So face panel will need between 3 to 5 bolts. (see image at the bottom)

On the left of the pdf you can see the magenta for the 95mm enclosure and the green for the 135mm enclosure.

you might need to hack a hole in the panel especially for the 135mm enclosure if you mount something on the front panel ,but this should be easy and can't be seen since it is internal to the enclosure.

Parts are now as follows.

95mm enclosure:

1 standard bottom panel
1 95mm rear panel 2mm Alu black powder coated
1 15mm high strengthening panel 2mm Alu unfinished
1 95mm lid 1.6mm mild steel black powder coated

135mm enclosure

1 standard bottom panel
1 135mm rear panel 2mm Alu black powder coated
1 90mm high strengthening panel 2mm Alu unfinished
1 135mm lid 1.6mm mild steel black powder coated

Hi All

I am planning over the weekend to expand on the current drawing design to make it clear for the designers at metalgrapho what I/we want.
And then to send the drawing in on Monday to get proper quotes.
They normally send me a nice 3d drawing i'll post.
Because my drawing skills stop at what you see in autocad ,actually apart from the straight lines you see in autocad my second best work is the houses i drew in grade 1. hehe

Metalgrapho does the bending radius calculations and also thickess added by the powdercoating(+-0.2mm).

The biggest question is if everybody is happy?
Does everybody understand the idea?

Is m5 for the front panel screws and m3 for all other screws ok?

Speak now or forever pack your case....

works for me. Though i rather preferred the model with the cnc'd heat vents. on the top plate anyway, bottom plate hardly matters.

Are you talking about the rectangle rather than the round ones?

like these:

but i might be alone in that. no biggie. I imagine cost might be a factor.

The other thing thing that i would have preferred is that the side panels where not attached to the lid. rather m3 bolt or screw through imo.

and yes, M3 & M5 should be perfect. one can always drill bigger if needed.

I really don't see what is to gain with loose side panels? Except extra loose parts that adds to the cost ,and more screws on the sides.
You also make an edge have a seam that otherwise can be a smooth bend.

I'll look into changing the air vents to something more along this lines:

The clean look of a single bent lid just cannot be beaten in my opinion and is one of the more important aspects in this design to me personally.

An enclosure with the heatsinks used as/on the side panels is a completely different ballgame.

Here we go.

I'm happy now. Going to email the drawing off for quoting on Monday(tomorrow).

Changes:

1) changed the lid vents to a strip of 2    30x2mm rectangles with 10mm between them along each edge.
I left the bottom panel vents the same. I suspect the 3mm diameter holes will aid in mounting a     heat sink
2) added extra views from the sides.

Once I get the quotes I will start a new thread with cost and then interested people can jump into the group buy.

Some very good ideas, I like.

Just one final concern on the centre support for the top lid. If I were to mount a switch dead centre on the front panel, wont that support interfere?

Should be fine for the 95mm enclosure , but on the 135mm enclosure it should not be a problem.

you have two options.

1) hack out a hole in the front strengthening panel. It is inside so you cant see it.
2) mount the panel to the back inside (will take up some real estate inside enclosure)

I think as an after thought i am quickly going to change that panel before i email it off ,so it won't interfere with the centre of the 135mm enclosure, since basically all amps will have one switch in front and nothing else.

changed it

Should easily be able to get a switch in the centre now. anywhere else you will have to cut / drill / saw that plate.

Fyi

seeing as setup charges is killing the cost on the current universal enclosure design with 4 different parts per enclosure (7 in total for two different size enclosures)

I am going to send them a drawing using only two parts per enclosure. (4 in total for 2 different size enclosures)

http://www.mediafire.com/?13q82ppln9z551p

Dimensions and look should be exactly the same. There will be a few extra screws added to lid. the design will just cut down on the amount of parts.

I'll send in and post as soon as I get quote.
