Snob could probably mean one of two things. 1) A person that is all about image and that would actually look down on those that can not afford the same.
2) A person that prefers a certain brand and perhaps "look down" on other brands. But they would however not look down on those that own the "bad" brand.

I think we're talking about person #2 here. However, to be a snob one still needs to have money. There are areas that I would like to be a brand snob in, but right now I just can not afford it.

In my snob whish list, I'll be the odd one out here......

I like the fashion thing. I mostly where cheap Woolworth's jeans, but if I do dress up in long sleeve shirt and tie, I like it if the sleeves are the perfect length. My tie will be knot perfectly symmetrical, and the tip of the tie must be on my belt buckle. Pants must be the right length. I did pay R750 for a pair of shoes 7 years ago, and it still looks very new. And a tie with a short sleeve shirt is a big no no.

If I could afford, I like the looks of Hugo Boss casual wear. I do like Levis jeans. But in the end its not about the brand, but how the clothes fit. If a R20 shirt looks good and fits well, I'll wear it. Unfortunately most of the times the more expensive clothes does look better. Altough I own a lot of Woolies clothes, I mus say its mostly overpriced for what you get.

I don't like whisky. I used to be a coffee snob, but lately I'm equally happy with Ricoffy. I drink red wine on occasion, but am not a big fan. I can hardly taste the difference between one beer and another, and I don't like it.

My HiFi is my passion, and I don't like ugly equipment. I don't like many buttons and knobs. I like it simple.

Haha, I also don't look down on anyone, I just feel sorry for them! (only joking...)

Gert, I agree on Grants. Excellent value. As with expensive mains cable, the whiskey argument will also not be settled in anyone's lifetime ;D

If someone enjoys a product / drink / clothing brand / civet cat poo coffee etc, good for them and I respect their taste and choices. Horses for courses...and all.  ;)

Frikkie, give some Grants a try. I found it to be very, very close to Glenfiddich in taste (in fact, the bottles even look the same).

Thanks for them suggestions, messrs K@kroerer & FieldOfAxes. I shall give both a try. Never actually tried Grants. The Erin's I've never seen, but will have a look-out.

I'm a snob when it comes to wine and whiskey. Wines usually from the Stellies or Hermanus area and single malt 12 year old whiskeys particularly ones from the Speyside region of Scotland

I am not opposed to the occasional glass of wine, but whisky (spelled without an 'e' if it comes from Scotland) is my poison. The brands from Speyside are good, but I prefer the more robust, smokey taste of whisky from Islay (Lagavulin, Laphroig). Incidently, the signature whisky in JW Black is Caol Ila, which comes from Islay.

Here's an interesting story, I'd love to know how true it is though : I was told that only a certain amount of a certain brand is bottled (for whatever reason). Sometimes it happens that they have excess; this is then blended and bottled and sold off as a cheaper whisky. I was told this after I found that Grants and Glenfiddich seems so very close (with a 4* price difference).

I'll give it a bash! I've not had Glenfiddich for a couple years now. My alternative is Jamesons, which I quite like with a bit of ice.

Interestingly it happens fairly regularly that certain beverages gets bottled under different lables for whatever reason. For many years Namaqua brandy has been KWV 3year....straight from KWV to Vredendal and then bottled as a brand most KWV drinkers would never consider.

My earlier mention of Just Red- you also get a bottle Just Matured Red, which for the last 2 years or so has been Lanzerac Cab. Pull out the cork and all is revealed! At 1/4 of the price if sold under Lanzerac label. You can guess what I've been having!
I used to have SUPER POWERS.
But my therapist took them away. :vsad:

Totally different taste, having a lot more of a smoked woody flavour to it (and it being Irish). I like this as well when going out to a restaurant, it complements a meal quite nicely.

Ah, so there may be some truth to the myth.

Speaking of Irish whiskies.  If you're a fan, try some Clontarf Irish Whiskey.

Half the price of Jamiesons, and easily on par quality-wise.  Has a lovely tangerine element to the taste.

Duh! Spelling failure on my part. Islay blends get too smokey for my palette but I can appreciate the mix of flavours that smokiness infuses. If you are ever in Dullstroom, spend some time at the Whisky tasting room. Also make sure you have a designated driver  ;) ;D

Thanks, that sounds like the place to be! Will definitely check it out when I am in the vicinity again.

Its at the top end of town on the main street. If you ask really nicely and show enthusiasm, the owner will often pour a dram or 2 of some really rare whisky

On wine, i've falled in love with Creation, specifically their Pinot Noir wines. Yum

Sitting at my desk in my study on a cold Friday arvie, sun through the silver birches, eating coppa ham and a home made chicken and olive pie, 2nd glass of Best Friend red by Zandvliet, dogs asleep at my feet, Nils Lofgren on the headphones..........

I don't care what you're snobbish about, it doesn't get much better than this.
My ears are fine, I tell you!
