Linn LP12 vs. Garrard 301 or 401
« on: May 17, 2011, 06:25:40 pm »
What is the winner?

I have option to swop my LP12 (Akito arm, with Vallhalla) for either of these Garrards (either need a plinth, but otherwise great). Both the Garrards have some sort of SME arm.

What would the market value of these things be? I wouldn't want to be swopping too far down the hill.

What does the forum think?

Let controversy reign.   8)
The first watt is the most important, but it does not mean I cannot have 99 other great watts.

If this is a question about whether the swop can occur the simple answer is YES. If I would like to I can.
I guess Rudi votes Garrard. (Which one?)

either. I prefer the 301 though, other than looks they are virtually identical mechanics.

mounted in a decent plinth and a good SME arm, specially a 12", you will be blown away. modified rega also works great. the magnitude of the bass is just awesome, not that fuzzy wobbly linn colouration nicknamed bass

Quite clearly you have not the faintest idea what you are talking about. Garrards are the fair of bombastic Garagistes and Butchers, they never were pretty and all attempts to make them so are futile. Linns are polite and refined, like a well heeled gentleman sitting in his favourite lounge chair, wearing a cravat and drinking a fine whisky.

That is how I feel too. Except I would go for a bow-tie.  ;) I have never disliked my Linn. It is a great machine. I’m not feeling like I have a burning vengeance to trade it.

you right (the comparison doesn't suit you, I see you with a more machine that can take control but you opted to be a sellout and took the easy route, not that lazy ass excuse comparing yourself to a insestual lord of the manor  )......maar nou is ek genoeg kak gepraat vir eendag.  ;)

Listening to a Linn is like taking a luke warm bath, while a Garrard is a swim in the ocean! Invigorating and involving.
