You know, you should give us the skinny :D on Foobar. I've heard it mentioned often, but I don't know enough to pique my interest.

;D I could but its much easier to post links. I use it in Kernel streaming mode (and YES you can hear the difference) ;D ;D

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=28  is the best place to start, there is just soooo much to get hrough though. Being opensource and having so many components to play with (F_D they have a 'Tube sound' component as well) it is not really a Plug-and-play player. This is the only part of my audio-chain that i'm prepared to spend time tweaking LOL

I don't really care too much about the looks, this config took me about 15 mins to do, but the Dolby Headphone, crossfeed and KS is what i really use it for.

For those who don't know, this is what a virgin install of foobar looks like

So now you can see why some people dont like it ;D ;D it takes work to make it look pretty but it sounds good from the start ;)

Quintessential looks pretty from the start!

But your Foobar does look good, mine looks just like your above image, I didn't know I could "dress her up".

When I used to use Windows, I always had the toss up between Winamp and Foobar. Foobar used less memory, but was ugly, winamp had better support, better features, but used around 5 meg more RAM.

When I moved to Linux around 5 years ago, Amarok was pretty average, not too pretty, yet nice support and decent backend [MySQL database ftw]. Amarok2 takes this 1 step more. I cannot fault it really on anything other than it crashes when my music share [over sshfs] goes down. This is somewhat understandable though. Quality is good on all bitrates [winamp sometimes seems to mess out with VBR at 320k]

Here is one of the themes I made and posted on http://www.hydrogenaudio.org but the thread got taken down. I still have the theme though.

Screen shorts from other places that reference it:

foobar2000 v1.0.3 stable is available and its starting to look a lot better 'out of the box' compared to earlier releases.

Beware, not all existing components are compat with win7, dolby headphone being one of them
