Agreed, but this cable should be constructed from standard materials and based on sound and well understood principles. Boutique and flavour of the month composites should not be flaunted as the reason for the improvement, but the fact that the manufacturer used technically accepted methods to create results should be submitted as support.
Agreed again, but you don't need a R5k cable to achieve that. This can be done for very little, even considering mid-man markups.
Hi Gert
Fully agreed. I don't think you need much more than three mains rated wires, with the live and neutral twisted tightly together and the earth running parallel. All encased in a good braid connected to the earth wire. Sometimes a good mains filter may help to solve a problem, but that should have been included in the equipment in the first place.
Unfortunately useful design features are often combined with unnecessary cost inflating features. Call that male jewelery if you want except you can't carry that around like an expensive camera. I think after market power cables are even more overpriced than interconnect and speaker wires. Joe Soap is often sold snake oil, hype and inflated expectations.
Interestingly, a good percentage of after market power cable market consists of re-branded / re-packaged product made by a certain Belgian based OEM, re-priced to insane levels. This OEM manufacturer primarily serves the medical and hi-reliability industry and many audio power cables come from their catalogue with just the packaging and printing as well as the colour of the molded parts changed to look more sexy. Sometimes gold plating is added. I'll try and find a link (lost that due to a PC crash).
I guess I got a bit absorbed in technical talk and did not state my position on pricing and fruitless construction features clearly.
