Indeed Cleansound,

Occasionally we make a "comedic" remark towards the iPod or other digital formats but NEVER have we made such similar ridiculous remarks like Mr Kelly did.

You and I know that we (us long haired vinyl f's) own and use digital audio sources. I think, even if we didnt we would be so arrogant. Is is just not right.

If vinyl were like Mr Kelly discribe it it would have died a long time ago. Seriously! I wish Mr Skaloumbakas from ACA were active on this forum - talk about a vinyl f. He is probably thee most serious vinyl enthusiast next to Mr Fremer in the world.

Ant - again you are correct with the keyword - RESOLUTION. Over this past few months that I have been active on this forum I went through some serious upgrades and each of them allowed me to enjoy my records better. I dont own many "audiophile" albums and most are (then) mainstream albums but even they sound extremely good. Good = Musical.

I also think that vinyl allows you to get closer to the music. You are activly involved in virtually all aspects. A cd system is more-or-less a play-and-play affair. I really enjoy setting up a cartridge/arm. It is also really relaxing to select a record, carefully removing it from the sleeves and getting it on the platter. No inconvinience...

Oh well Mr Kelly - if you want to be like that then shame on you!

Us LHVF's appreciates vinyl for what it is. True audio!

GD

IMO there are a bunch of reasons why vinyl is more enjoyable then seedy, many of them have little to do with the actual medium but rather the processes that precede it... vinyl replay is also more tactile

That said, I do not ignore music on other formats as music is what it is about, just find me listening lots less (hardly ever) to the CD rig which is reasonably decent.

As you so nicely put it Croak, there are so many reasons why one prefers one meduim over the other.

What I've found so interesting returning to Vinyl is how much more music I listen to. With CD, and a pretty reasonable one at that, I just don't get the urge to  play yet another disc.  With Vinyl, I get much more involved and end up spending far too much time in front of the speakers.

At the end of the day, its the music that counts, not the meduim, whatever meduim gets you listeneing, great.

Another interesting issue is how every time I change something in the TT/ARM/Cartridge/Cables/Phonostage loop, I hear more in the music. Then again, I could just be justifying the sum I've spent on whatever portion of the chain I've just changed...

I think regardless of the medium, we all need to justify the amount of money we spend on this addiction ;D
