i agree with everything you just said but when it comes to the sin of killing those animals is it not better if we minimize this instead of maximize it .... its absolutely impossible to live a blameless life so you do as little of the sin as you can and prevent as much as you reasonably can when you are aware of it

Hinduism - my parents were born in India and are devout Hindu's - and  i followed in their footsteps, though im not as devout as they are because i also indulge in the leather belts and leather couches etc

I agree with you, we should strive to do as little sin as possible.

hehehe I can't imagine even being on a fruit diet.  I wouldn't last long.  I know this isn't really on topic, but for the vegetarians that want to get a good multivitamin this is a good read:
www.disabled-world.com/artman/publish/article_1786.shtml the solgar omnium is available in SA. I'm not sure if they are vegetarian though... just a good multivitamin.

There are many compelling arguments to be made in favour of vegetarianism. Besides the moral objections, red meat represents a particularly wastefully use of scarce resources. One could produce about 10x the amount of protein by planting pulses in the same area that a single cow needs for grazing. I grew up in Durban and found it very easy to be a vegetarian if you like curry. There is simply no comparison between a beans bunny and boiled vegetables in terms of taste. I have subsequently 'fallen off the wagon' and eat fish and poultry now. While I draw the line with mammals, most vegetarians say: 'if it has a face, I won't eat it'.

Mmmm

I have learned, in the past few months, to appreciate Vegetarian life-styles from a different point of view.

My good friend and colleague at Bop Studios follows the Hindu religion and, because of religious vows, only eat meat on Fridays - Sundays. So when I visit them during the week I know we gonna have veggies... also at the studio, when getting lunch, I know we are getting Spinach & Feta pies or slap chips for lunch.
But after experiencing the wonderful world of vegetarian Indian cuisine, I now love it! There is a *few* dishes that I am not too fond of.

To eat meat is not mandatory and I have learned to live without it - especially beef.

Not that I will turn strict Veggy anytime soon...

I hope this vegetarian thing catches on, perhaps I can get my steak for a civilized price.  ;)

I make a dal makhani every now and then, and love it! I get a serious craving for beans and lentils every now and then.

Ha ha, yes. Apparently your innards are supposed to get used to digesting pulses and you don't have nearly as much 'inflation'. This has not happened yet, and I eat lots of pulses.

Soak them before you cook them, some up to 24 hrs. and replace water twice... this leaches the chemicals that protect it from your gut out of the seed coat, makes it less inflationary...
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

Indian vegetarian and western vegetarian are 2 different kettles of fish, or should that be be to different pots of carrots.

I'll often choose the beans / veg curries over the mutton curries. Hopefully going to have time for some spice shopping before I head to the airport today.
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.
