Cyrus DACmaster R1500 neg
« on: March 31, 2011, 09:59:23 pm »
Old school DAC but a serious beasty. Mean power supply, lots of attention to detail not found today under 10K or more. The best Cyrus could offer at the time.
Lots of inputs and digital out, RCA and balanced and various digital inputs, just not USB. Will handle up to 48K BUT will beat the pants of most sub 8K disc spinnners at that resolution.
The best stereo shot in the arm for a basic DVD player and a good upgrade for many a CD player, or use it to improve your knypD O O S (squeezebox in Afrikaans). Easy unforced but high res sound.

Two separate 20-bit resolution D/A converters are employed with 8-times oversampling and a fifthorder filter maintaining phase linearity. The built-in power supply is suspended from the DAC board and uses a toroidal transformer with 16 separate regulated rails and star earthing.

The Cyrus Dacmaster D/A converter has a Pro XLR socket will accept signals from professional digital equipment and there is a further CD coaxial socket for connection to the digital outlet of any CD player so equipped. In addition TP input and Tape output coaxial sockets give access to any digital recorder having a sample frequency in the range 30-50kHz, and an OPT socket will accept the optical type of digital input.
These various alternative inputs are selected via four source selector keys on the front panel. Other controls/indicators include the power on/standby switch and LED, phase reverse switch and LED (green for normal, red for reverse) and a lamp to indicate whether the CD being played has been recorded with the optional high-frequency pre-emphasis. Very few CDs have HE emphasis but all CD players, including this one, are able to detect its presence and change the response characteristics to suit.
The digital signals from the selected input appear at the buffered Tape output for digital recording if required and the L/R analogue version is fed to the analogue output sockets. Both coaxial and balanced XLR outputs are provided. There is provision for driving the Dacmaster from a PSX-R power unit.

Not sure if PMs are going through?  Your profile says they're disabled?  My first PM did though

OT

I did disable PMs as I like to keep my communication in one place where possible. However, there is no real way to disable PMs, only to block all. When you do this though it appears to the PMer as if you just blocked HIM/HER and he gets all upset why you dont want to hear from them specifically.
So, I enabled it but still discourage it...

I suppose it could - at a stretch, but it wouldn't be right would it?  Better to have said, "accepting offers starting at R1500". 'Neg' usually means down, not up.  I've agreed to your R1500 as in the post

An idea for resolution would be for the first buyer to either meet or beat the second price offered. That's how it works in the property game at least.
How much is too much?

Best to retract and put it up for auction

All fair comments and the Dutchman in me likes the $$$ but I have always said I am back in this game in a way I want to keep fun and as decent as can be. Hence I dont own a (real full size) Ferrari and will probably never from HiFi either.

Thus here is the post I typed while you guys were typing....

I was just joking about the nappies, though the whole thing costs plenty for sure.

Brett, I know you want this because it is a good deal, you know that if you dont like it or performs different to expectations, you would be able to sell it on quite easily so it is a fairly safe chance.

The other offer came from a fellow who really just comes across as rather passionate about the Cyrus stuff. My consideration to his offer was more about the fact that he knows he REALLY wants it and I understand (have) that passion too.

However, fair is fair, I set a price, you shouted first so that is that. (It is also not a property with 1000s involved and large differences in the amount of debt slavery so morality comes at lower cost today ;) )

May I just ask that if you consider to sell it in a little while, you contact me and I will contact the Cyrus fan (NOT RS btw) and broker a deal where you even make a few Rand (not me) and someone gets something he really badly wants?

Fair enough.  But does this happen even after the buyer and seller have agreed to the sale and the price?  Surely in property market as well as in any other field of commerce written (e-mail) and verbal agreements are legally binding.

Not gonna drag this out.  It started out as a simple 'for sale' post.  Just to say that I've been in this situation myself.  Got better offers on items after I agreed to a sale.  Not an easy one, but had to stick to my word, even if it meant "losing" money.  Sorry, but I still believe a man's word is his honour.

I responded in a PM immediately after the "DILEMMA" was posted, and will wait for a response.
