Heh, this is not the first time this pops up. I'm just not sure how to make it more visible that the rules should be read before posting. Any suggestions would be welcome...

unfortunately there is no way to make people read everything... How many EULA have you skimmed or just scrolled and clicked OK....

Yes, I get that it's human nature to only read what is interesting and relevant, that is why I try and be patient with newbs (yes, I learnt my lesson). But it still doesn't change the fact that the rules are there for a good reason and should be adhered to if you want to participate in a free forum.

This now brings up another issue that should probably not be discussed in the open, but here goes: The other day I was accused of how ridiculous the rules are and that we are 'draconian'. I agree that moderation is aggressive, but it is only so in the Classifieds. Outside of that, the amount of moderation over all the years has been less than the fingers on my one hand (no doubt because of the 'quality' of members here)

But the reasons for the firm stance in the Classifieds has been discussed ad-nauseum. Still, many newbs still retaliate vehemently against this (I should show you some of the PMs) so I must wonder if we not going about this all wrong? What I'm trying to prevent is to have another gumtree on here, bearing in mind that no revenue is generated for the forum from the Classifieds - all costs are carried by kay. So on the one hand I'm trying to prevent abuse and on the other hand I still think the Classifieds adds a lot of value for all of us here. But how do you make it work for everybody (or at least most?)

Fire away, I'm all ears...

I think leave it like it is. at the moment it works, so why change it? There are lots of places to advertise, like the AVSA classifieds for example. We don't need the classifieds section to become a circus.

Put up a warning... all pm's to mods regarding classifieds violations will be posted on the moderation forum.

At least all of us gets to deal with it then.

GO have a look at Carbonite, that be a circus right there, If you join the forum just to sell you're goods, you are not contributing to the community. It's not hard to do, there are so much going on here some day's, just ask a " educated " question and you're 10 posts will be made up in 1 Day. I think if you leave it open to the general public, you'll end up with people selling his I-pod's headphones the dog chewed up and his 80's Walkman with 2 free tapes :)

Not to mention those who want to swap a used earbud and the fluff in their navel for a Plinius monoblock.

Ja i looked at carbonite but it is not a classifieds, it is a forum, and I didn't want to get distracted by another forum to sell a laptop stripping for spares.

carbonite's classifieds is the main repository for 2nd hand computer parts in SA. and yes, it's a bit of a circus.
