What the  Byrd is sayig:
Some have found significant improvements using a valve output stage. ;)

A while back someone sold a Musical Fidelity component that does just that.

And yes, you can build your own audio and get excellent results. :)

No hoax at all. I've been watching the lampizator site for many years; he knows his stuff and has some very insightful ideas and circuit mods.

I'm very keen to try his "quick'n'dirty" XO design method. He's very 'euro' in his absolute certainty of his rightness, but like his explanations, they're pleasingly sensible.

Personally, I'm disgusted by what he does. He ruins perfectly good equipment with his 'mods' and has no concept of any pride in his work. The fact that he feels he can charge others for doing these mods is even more disturbing.

I agree and disagree. He is quite smart and does know his stuff. Many of his ideas and concepts really work, Non O/S works very well for some music, not at all for others for eg. His transport exploits are interesting too.

However, his workmanship is IMO cavalier and messy, with some of the voltages even outright dangerous/lethal yet he has a lot to say about others modifying stock machines to be sold as a better product...

Would I even think of buying or letting someone I know buy his expensive DAC? Hell no.

Actully not.  disgusted at manufacturers who sell hi-end, exorbitantly priced machines in fancy aluminium machined casings only to find the insides are standard Philips dacs and transports.

I bought a modded CD40 with a valve output Lampizator.  Cheap plastic milk crate cd player, sounds fantastic and have not found a replacement, not even a Marantz 6000OSE

I was going to make coffee, but noticed this and had a look just out of curiosity.

I have heard of this effort before but never had 'hands-on' experience, neither did I now stop to look for photos, so I bow to what Gert said.

I stopped though when the expected waffle of 'mine-is-better' lead on to the usual notions of what goes on in a power supply, paper-in-oil caps, role of chokes, capacitors-in-the-signal-line, bigger-power-transformers-are-better. Little to do with reality on that side, so I will go back to my coffee.

Eclaire,  by the above not at all disputing what you say and experienced. As said no experience myself - so good for you. You would also in the past have noticed my own standing regarding so-called high-end equipment with mediocre stuff under the 'hood'. But for me the same goes regarding guys padding their stuff with pseudo-science and obvious little knowledge of electronic basics, trying to lure along the innocent buyer with techno-speak, blah blah bloeps.

I would like to look up some schematics and such of this guy's work when there is more time. (I am not holding my breath though; not trying to appear superior as I have been accused of, only been there, seen that, same ol' story over decades ....)

Now for that Jacobz.
