I unfortunately wouldn't have a clue about the centre... am only really a stereo person... that had to struggle my way through much room acoustic issues...

good practice is to get it in-line with the FL and FR drivers... which is always difficult... At a guess put it higher and test... it could mostly bounce from the floor  - or ceiling for that matter...  so that floor bounce could be the source of the brightness, alternatively turn it on it's side - still standing in the centre, just to check at the level of the FL and FR drivers... But honestly I am a bit out of my depth...
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

Your coffee table buddy. Glass? Hardwood? Nice big reflective surface? I ask because it's a huge problem for me. throw a couple of pillows or a rug over it and see whether it makes a difference to your sound. Also, those speakers in the corner are not doing you any favours. I'd rather corner load the subs than the speakers. You have to give the FL and FR as much free air around them as you can to get the most out of them.

Missed the coffee table completely chuck it in the bin, or get a slatted hardwood coffee table... Mine doesn't sound too cappy...
