Freshlyground - Ma'Cherie
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:40:50 am »
Bought this cd yesterday as I quite like the band(weird yes, seeing that I am from the other side of the Boerewors Curtain ;D )

Sound quality is not bad considering that its a local Sony BMG production. What tickles me is the layers of sound on most of the tracks - flute, harmonica, thumb piano, etc - very interesting.

Do bear in mind that this "type" of music is not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy it ;D

I have their CD "Nomvula". Very good music, and a good recording (not too much compression). Also, they are not category-bound. Have not listened to their latest, though.

Howz about that song about the pot-bellied guy?

(weird yes, seeing that I am from the other side of the Boerewors Curtain ;D )

Which side is the other side, and which side is the right side?

This cd was released yesterday and yes, Potbelly is one of the songs.

I also have Nomvula and I am tempted to say that Ma'Cherie is even better quality.

I find some of their music more or less listenable (from a great distance), but I really do not like the lead singer's voice. It seems she runs out of steam and is flat half the time.

Would I buy any of their CDs? - No Sirree, not my cup of tea at all.

But that's just li'l ol' me!

He F_D,

Got a nice Janis Joplin record a few weeks ago... now that woman can sing - plenty of soul indeed!!

"Take another piece of my hear..."  hurts sooooo good!

GD,

Now here I quite agree with you!

Oddly enough, they have just played "Potbelly" on OFM now, they took a poll from listeners whether it's a keeper or a throwaway. Results were about fifty-vyftig. I never thought it was too bad, the fidelity was quite good, but Oh, that voice!

This just goes to show how tastes differ, I again love her voice ;D

The world would have been terribly boring if we all had the same tastes and preferences ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mind you I can bear Janis Joplin a bit ;D

I couldn't agree with you less! I think her voice may take some getting used to, but it is unique in a world of Beyonce's and Mariah's. A big plus in my book!

I am with you on this one Shaun. I liked Zolani's voice from the first time I heard her.

I find the below emoticon in very poor taste. Very smutty. Not the kind of thing I would have expected from you FD! :D

Mmmm - My tastes often vary according to my mood. Give me um Sisters of Mercy when I am mad, Sting when I am sad, buddah bar when I am high and Eric Serra when I am low.

Different Strokes... at different times :D
