No audio option, not that I know off. And I checked the manual that specifically says that a fibre optic or SPDIF cable must connect the decoder to the TV or AV to enable 5.1 surround sound. The HD PVR does not have any options to set a HDMI connection. Only 2 settings for surround sound: AUTO or FIXED. The other option is LANGUAGE option that allows you to set the "second language" or "surround sound".

The information in the manual is old. DD through HDMI works perfectly and was enabled after the manual was printed, so no need for the SPDif connection.

Way in the beginning, when the HD PVR was first released, it didn't support audio over HDMI but that was corrected by an update soon afterwards, they just took a long time to correct the manual. It definitely does DD over HDMI. Go into Advanced Options and then select DSD Upgrade to get the latest update.

EDIT: Oh, sorry gbyleveldt, didn't see your reply.

i discovered by accident that the HDMI audio was enabled with an update - but at that time it created an audio delay which could not be corrected by either the decoder or the AV receiver since those could only adjust in one direction and the delay was in the opposite direction ie the video needed to be delayed instead of the audio for them to sync

the only way to correct that was to still use the coax digital connection (or even the optical) since the delay did not exist with those connections - only on the HDMI

so can anyone who is using the HDMI only tell us if this has been corrected or not

Bloody hell, we're not dealing with AV anymore, we've moved into IT...
