May the planned fruit from your sirloins provide many happy hours. Careful about too many solder fumes.

Hi everyone.

I'm 22 and a computer engineer (repairman) by day. and an audio junkie for 92% - 94% of the time.

It started about 15 years ago, my dad brought home a pair of Infinity SM122 12" "hifi professional" in a DBL enclosure that was in a taxi about to be written off. PS. i still have the 12's but one is starting to rub at the lower Freq's...
Hey - I got a set of those! Need to rebuild the cabinets. Very kewl & welcome! :)
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.

Hi Guys

My first post here, thought I'd introduce myself first instead of jumping in and asking questions left right and centre.

I'm new to the AV/Hi Fi world, but have been into Car Audio for a long time now. Started out as liking just loud and blaring bass, but my tastes have mellowed over the years, and nowadays I appreciate the finer aspects of music in general.

I actually compete in Car Audio SQ competitions, and a few of the guys here will know me from that side of the world.  ;)

Anyways, hope to learn a lot about Hi Fi and AV here.

Cheers

Hi all,

Been browsing the forum for 2 weeks now. Some good info and learnt quite a bit already. Been involved in IT for over 10yrs and tend to do lots of research before buying anything.

My audio system been static for 6 years, Denon 1603 receiver driving sony speakers (from those combo sets, yes i know  ::) ). Always wanted to switch to KEF speakers but didn't due to the space being multi-purpose. Recently purchased a house and will have a dedicated AV space. I've (2 weeks ago) replaced the fronts with KEF Q5s. My wishlist is as follows:

1) Replace surrounds and center with better (KEF preferably)
2) Replace AV Receiver with HDMI capable (Looking at Denon 1911, 2311, Onkyo 608)
3) Get a full HD LCD/LED (Current: Sony Bravia 42" RPTV)

I am getting married... so budget is limited, but might want to get some things before I get heavily restricted by the wife! Will be watching the classifieds for some bargains.

Hey every one.
I'm the new guy today. Just posted in the classifieds section what I'm looking for.

Currently I do not have a nice system any more. So I have to build from Scratch. The idea is to eventually have a Fully automated Smart Home. My electronics skills are a little rusty, but will pick up soon enough. During the Day I'm a .Net developer, and during the evening I'm husband and daddy, and late at night I'm a developer again :-)
Somewhere between all that I need to start building my AV system to what I want.
I have one of the 550 Series Sumsung tv's, that is DLNA certified. My aim is to move everything in that direction. I've got a windows home server with Twonky Server running to serve DLNA content to the Television.
At this stage, It is playing sound vi the tv speakers  :'( :'(
So logical next step is sound.
Preference is something 5.1 that has hdmi capabilities, but I do not think my budget will allow for that. I do not care for 7.whatever at this stage. 5.1 is more that allright.
Reason I want to aim low end, is later in say a year or 2 I want a multi room system that is controlled via the smart home controler. Also to be aquired still.
So any sugestions is welcome!
Location: Centurion (Gauteng)

Wow thats a very opened question  :D

So I'm going to assume that a HTITB is what you're looking for first and then moving that to a second room once you get proper home cinema  :D

All I can advise is to go and listen to as many as you can, bearing in mind that it won't sound the same in your house and retailers of HTITB won't generally let you demo their kit ;D unless you take advantage of some of their '14 day money back guarantees' (which works well, I've done it to demo goods  ;D ;D )
I wouldn't look much further than a Sony or JVC (if they're still available) system, the rest IMO would be a waste of hard earned money

Good luck in your quest  ;D
