Emotiva order...looking for partners in crime to piggyback
« on: February 06, 2011, 01:12:27 pm »
Im thinking of  bringing in one of their dacs - maybe 2 - they seem inexpensive and have features I want.
Anyone want some of their stuff and we can make a combined order and save a ton on shipping - CT based so it might be a little more expensive if you got to ship to JHB etc.

Current system: Squeezebox Touch , Z-Sys RDP-1 , PS Audio DAC, Bryston 4B ST , Audiolab 8200mb Monoblocks, Canton Ergo 120dc or Meridian DSP5500 speaker

If there is someone in Jhb that also want to do something similar for Jhb shipment, I will be interested.

I just ordered the DAC and managed to get a further discount from Emotiva on the shipping just by asking. ;)

Rodney I don't believe you can really save money on a combined order. The shipping prices are per item unless they're really small items that can be squeezed into one of the boxes eg. X-Series cables, splitters etc.

Rodney, I would gladly partner with you. Want to bring in a ERC-1 and maybe a UMC-1 as well.
I am located in Durbanville so it would quite easy!

Oh , are you sure it wont save anything ? , if so  then can that suggestion - I'm gonna bring in a dac or 2  for myself.
I'm off to China for a week in April , will see what they have on offer - lots of chinese stuff we don't see and hear of here.

A few months ago I was ready to do this, but it will be a while before I've saved up for a UMC-1 again. When're you intending to do this?

I am not so sure.

This is a quote i got from Emotiva
////
I am pleased to quote the following:

UMC-1           $699.00
UPA-5           $429.00
Freight         $361.53 FedEx Economy
Total   $1489.53

XPA-3           $699.00
Freight         $345.28 FedEx Economy
Total   $1044.28

UPA-5           $429.00
Freight         $345.00 FedEx Economy
Total   $774.00

UPA-2           $389.00
Freight         $254.14 FedEx Economy
Total   $643.14
///

You see if you partner more than one item the shipping increase is very small!
So if we import 3 or 4 DACs a CDP and a UMC it should work out a lot less expensive.

I could drop them a email and ask for a quote for the items and we can check the shipping price.

Was just going to suggest we get it from the horse's mouth but vdL jumped me :D

If you do it then I will wait for your feedback.  I am sure there must be a discounted rate for combined shipping.  It is then just to work out who should pay what?

My suggestion would be to split it % wise on the weight of the items.  What do you think?

it is easy.
You just get the shipping cost of each item alone and use that to determine what each person has to pay.
Can't just go by weight because size as well as weight determines the shipping cost.

You could ask about a bulk discount on the items.

Ok, I understand. It would be really helplful if we could put together an Emotiva user's mailing list so we could communicate with each other. There are times when I want to bring in smaller items like their speaker and RCA cables but the shipping costs just wipe out the good value they represent.

Normally the bulk discount is not determined per item, but rather on the shipping as a whole in my experience.  But lets see what they come up with

Yes, but you use the shipping price of the item if sent alone as a weight in the final shipping price for all items.
So even if discount is awarded, the determined price-weight of your item determines the % of the shipping cost.
