« on: February 02, 2011, 05:40:09 pm »
I was just wondering if anybody could shed some light on these as i have a pair of each and was wondering if they were considered "decent".I also have the matching 3 way crossovers from  Richard Allan...what should we build?

Richard Allan made full range drivers that were very highly rated in their time. His drivers for multiway systems were also considered to be pretty decent in their day, comparable to Kef, Dalesford and Audax and in some cases even better. I had some that I played with, although I cannot remember the type numbers.

Same here.

I used quite a few Richard Allens in the 50s for other people. They were good and reliable. Some took a beating as PA loudspeakers. I also do not recall the type no, but remember the 12" types as quite low resonance (30 Hz or so). Spares was then available from Proctor in the Cape.

Only if they came from that time, I would closely inspect the cones etc. for age, eaten by bugs, etc.
