Yep, you did read that correctly. Brand spanking new, arrived from US today, with DVD Multiregion mod already applied!
That is the ultimate DVD/CD player I was talking about in the other FS thread (replacement for my Philips players).
S2700 was reviewed everywhere as one of the 10 best DVD players ever made, and among the best CD players ever (Cyrus DAC), with fully separate analogue and digital power supplies.
Faroudja chipset takes care of the analogue video conversion if you are not using the HDMI - doesn't get any better that that.
I'll also just mention that it also plays SACD and DVD-Audio, and the rest is up to you to google it out...

Price: R6000 (still being advertised in RSA for R11999) - you know it's steal at this price!

With the Yamaha DVD-S2700 standard package, you will receive the following:
- 200W 220-110V transformer (DVD is only 30W max, 5W standby) with RSA 3-pin plug-adapter
- Gold plated Cattex pro quality HDMI cable - double shielded, thick as a pinky finger with a soft jacket so that it routes easily.

Warranty is in the box, the usual product registration procedure. I honestly have no idea if Yamaha SA will honour it or not - I know that many consumer electronics companies do, Sony being one of them (personal experience).

Shipping is at buyer cost - shipping weight is 9.5Kg.

I heard this play on Friday and from my short audition, it sounded really, REALLY good. And it doesn't hurt that it looks good too! ;)

Now if that long lost ship would just come in...

Thanks Attie - and in the short time we had, we didn't even play through what I consider my reference speakers (those big intimidating panels in the corners ;)).

If the performance of my S1700 is anything to go on, this is a fine player! I actually think mine is a better CD player than DVD player, buts thats not saying its a bad DVD player, but quite the oposite!

I certainly think these units challenge CD players and DVD players at much higher price points! So this is a great 'universal' player to get a hold of!

Little known: You can turn the HDMI "handshake" OFF using the remote, which allows you to turn off the TV once you started the playback, and the player will seamlessly continue to stream multichannel digital through the coax/optical to your HT processor. So, you can listen to the AC3/DTS music DVDs without the visual distraction :).

Trade/swap gladly considered. Always interested in Thorens, KEF, Quad & Acoustat ESLs, serious amplification...
