Kef, and more Kef!

  I'm more than a little bit loathe to part with these but I have to clear house for my move... so..
These are from late 1999, bought from Electrovision in Cresta Jhb.
These speakers have been well looked after and sound fantastic.
They don't have to give ground to any of the later similar models. Plays movies and music equally well with great reviews when they came on the market.
The Q55.2's are unusual in that they have ports both front and rear, making for a very nice full bodied sound that can be controlled by placement.
I'm in the Cape (Paarl) and would prefer local audition and pickup, but otherwise shipping will be for the buyer's account.

Kef Q55.2's - R3400 with front covers, spikes and boxes
Kef Q15.2's - R2300 with covers
Cherrywood finish
                   R5500 if bought together

Just ordered a bit of amplification today.....if I bought anything else I would have to hire storage and only bring it home in a couple of months!

Hi waterhond.

I am quite inrigued by these speakers. I have a Onkyo 804. Now I am interested in the B&w 683 or the Kef iq9's. How would these compare relative to them? Secondly my 804 can drive the B&W but fares a lot better with the Q9's. How easy do these speakers drive.

Please excuse me if i do ask simple questions. I am only starting out with the higher end sound systems.

Had a small little Sony system when after I heard a set of higher end speakers play was just not cutting it anymore.

Lastly is it advisable couriering it?

Hi Emile,
It's hard to make comparisons - I havent heard the B&W 683's and relative to the iQ9's they are very similar with the latter having just a tad more prominent upper midband. I haven't had any problems driving them but the amps I've used were all in the 120 to 150 watts range.
 Don't apologise for your questions, this forum has people of all levels of experience and knowledge and are willing to help and inform each other.
Couriering has risks but is quite good on average.
 The best thing however before you buy something like this, is to go and have a good long listen to several makes and models before you make your decision - never buy on looks alone.

The drivers are all 165mm diameter.
Box sizes:
iQ55.2 - 852 x 207 x 276 mm (H x W x D)
iQ15.2 - 312 x 207 x 276 mm
