Nah, it's only with some cuts where my router's exhaust wind causes some MDF dust to be jetted out which invariably ends up either up my shirt sleeves or down my shirt collar. Combined with the extreme humidity here (60% today, expected 80% tomorrow) that dust can get a bit nasty. I do wear a dust mask, etc and the vacuum does a good job of capturing the bulk of the dust so it's not too unbearable ;)

A quick update ;)

I managed to get some work done on the project this weekend no thanks to the endless rain and the occasional power outage :P

The cross-braces, internal partitions and inner end caps have all received their respective curved grooves for the side panels. This exercise took longer than I anticipated but could have taken much longer without the aid of the router template I prepared earlier.

Here are the groovy panels ready for the next phase:

I am busy preparing a router template for the cross-brace vents, had to call it a night in consideration of my neighbours.
Here's a photo of the template taking shape:

I cut the vents oversize to compensate for the 19mm diameter template guide and 12.7mm (1/2") straight bit I'll be using to cut out the vents.

I reckon the enclosures will start taking shape this week ;)

Nice work Byron.

These things always take longer than one expects, but then what does it matter - not like you are working toward a deadline.  If you take it a bit slower you may enjoy the build more as well.

Ian.

Thanks Ian :) Hehe, you're absolutely right there's no deadline but I'm dying to hear these babies sing! :D Even so I'm being careful not to rush things, don't want to end up with any self-inflicted niggles once they're complete ;)

A quick update; I completed the router jig for the cross-brace vents and managed to fit in a test cut before having to call it quits for the night:

Pictured with the test cut piece are the inductors I plan to use for L10 in the 2-way x-over. These are 14AWG 2.7mH copper foil types manufactured by Alpha-Core Inc. Each one of these puppies weigh in at 875g ;)

Very nice Byron!

Those braces of yours should be on on the outside - they are too good looking to be hidden inside the cabinets.

I am too lazy to do router cutting on mine - usually just go for the jigsaw.

If you don't mind me asking - how much did you pay for a 2.7mH 14AWG foil inductor?  Must have been on the serious side?

Regards,
Ian.

Very nice work done there Byron, I am very impressed!

I have started a set of curved boxes almost 2 years ago, and up to date just the frames has been build.  :-[

Thanks Ian :) Yep, it's shame that a large chunk of the effort won't be visible from the outside but I guarantee you that I'll be taking many photos before they are forever entombed ;)
Jigsaws and I have a love/hate relationship, but I suspect it has more to do with the blade used which either cuts true or tends to run about doing it's own thing and ultimately ruining my work (the latter being "clean cut" blades), so I prefer to go the long route to guarantee a more precise cut.

I'll have to check the landed price for the coils for you, but I can list the order line item in the meantime:
(25 August, 2010) 2 x    Goertz CF2.7 (14 AWG) Copper Foil Inductor    $89.56

Shipping came in at $120.14, so you can already see where this is going :-[

Thanks Norval :) I don't blame you, the more complex the enclosure the less likely it is to get done quickly. My ZRT's had been gathering dust (and gecko turds) for months until I finally decided to get on with it (a week's leave also helped!). Do you have any pics of your project?

Yeah, the ZRT builders of some months back are suspiciously quiet. I was hoping that we would have been flooded by ZRT build threads by now.

C'mon guys! Get cracking ;).

Or should I be watching the classifieds for basement prices on brand new Scannie drivers? :o

Running away now!  :D

My ZRT thread will start soon.. veneer edging is being made, MDF has been cut.. Just one halfwit move so far, I only had 2 side panels cut for both speakers  ::)
