Eh...next year they bring out 3D scratch & sniff, so I'll wait for that one.

Only 3D movie I've seen in the theatre is Avatar and I was not impressed, by either the 3D or the movie. In fact I felt as though the 3D actively detracted from the spectacle. A lot of shimmer, especially on glass reflections and their computer displays, out of focus elements drifting past the forground, the need to reacquire the focal point after a scene change - not for me.

Oh thank God, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes, or my glasses or the cinema, because people were raving about it so much, and I sat thinking, well they can't be raving about this crap? It was Toy Story 3 btw.

What irritates me is when they ONLY offer the film on circuit in 3D. My folks enjoy seeing the odd fantasy film, and they went and saw (I think) The Last Airbender. There was no option for the cinema-goer to see it in plain old 2D, which was what they wanted, so they were hoofed for something like R60 a ticket and didn't enjoy the experience at all.

Yup, that's what happened with Toy Story, and my daughter (3) wears the glasses for about 5 minutes, takes them off, and then gets bored because the movie is blurry. My son lasted a little longer, but also took them off after a while. We paid a ridiculous amount for all four of us, and the experience basically sucked, but they won't get me again.

Will in future just wait for it to come out on DVD, won't even bother going to the cinema. Actually, haven't been to a cinema in about two years, I think. Got sick and tired of broken seats, people SMSing/talking on cellphones and crap sound and video. Get a better experience (though much smaller!) at home, and it costs a lot less!

Yea, I gave up on the cinema a good many years ago. Much better experience overall, just have to have the patience to wait for the video store release. Nice thing about Denmark is that almost everything is available at the video store on both BD and DVD (and at the same rental price).

Watched last airbender in 3D - not overly impressed. Probably beacuse it's about 10% of the entire movie.

Personally its a fad - they've tried 3D several time since the early 1900's and it's always flopped.

MAJOR FAD = FLOP FOR SURE.
How much is too much?

Some movies are nice at the cinema but I still find it a bit odd how you can't focus your eyes anywhere on the scene - the depth is just an illusion. Glasses are a major annoyance - uncomfortable, rob brightness, more often than not grimy... Am I going to wear dorky glasses at home? For some things like gaming, I can imagine doing so. But the tech needs to move on before I'll consider it. I think for movies at least I'm perfectly happy with what I got.

Just a gimmick to sell product. They can keep it as far as I am concerned.

3D at a cinema where you pay a high ticket price but can get the glasses for cheap is one thing - what andrew mentioned above about idiots sitting next to you merrily texting away on a cellphone or throwing popcorn down your shirt (true story .... but they wouldnt like it if you stuffed that same popcorn down their throat afterward) just makes the cinema experience into another HO-HUM dreary thing to not look forward to

having the 3D set at home is another kettle of fish - imagine you have the standard kit of two pairs of glasses with your 3D blu-ray player and someday you have 20 people over to visit want to imagine what the demo experience is going to be like when two people watch in 3D with 18+ additional people all watching a unholy blurry mess ..... glasses are still around a grand currently so i cant imagine too many people buying lots of spares for surprise visitors etc

also im still trying to find more than two or three possible movies that i would actually want in 3D from the possibly around ten or so that are currently available - no movies actually available means that its still a massive waste of time really and is just a means for manufacturers to make loads of extra cash from unsuspecting dupes who actually like to feel that they are tech savvy ..... i cant really fathom out whats so tech savvy about having a TV that only two people at a time can watch and only 10 movies to watch on it - of which most would be junk

as good as the experience seems i really think that right now people should concentrate more on HD - i would actually get more excited about a 2K or 4K resolution projector or a quadHD TV (2160p) at an affordable price rather than 3D - if content for that becomes available

Yes i agree, won't be buying any 3D kit anytime soon. A large screen is a must for getting the full experience (ie. projector)
