Calling all the '80s children
« on: November 05, 2010, 08:47:31 pm »
Don't know how many of you are aware, but Sony Music has been releasing a series of DVDs that deal with certain decades. Stuff is brilliant. Man behind it is Nigel King, and he has put together some seriously great compilations, with 5.1 soundtracks. Sounds better now than it did then.

But here's your chance: Come now, list the '80s tracks that defined your life. Not the shite that almost every music company releases time and time again as a 'Best of 80s' compilation.

What we're looking for are the hits that people may have forgotten about, not the ones that appear time and time again. The '80s had so much good music - help us to remember the hits, so that Sony can get it on DVD...

I've already asked for 'Don't Give Up', by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.

PS - If you are an '80s fan and don't know about this DVD collection, you are missing out on GREAT stuff!

Bourgeious Tagg - Waiting for the World to Turn
Peter Cetera - Glory of Love

Company B - Fascinated
ELO -  Calling America
ELO - Hold On Tight

Laid Back - Sunshine Reggae
Alison Moyet - Is This Love
Billy Ocean - When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going
Pretty Poison - Catch Me I'm Falling
Pseudo Echo - Funky Town (Yes, I know it's not the original, but I like this one... :) )
The Spectres - Teddy Bear

Kim Wilde - Cambodia

All stuff I really liked in the 80's, but seldom hear.

I'll think of more as the day goes by I'm sure.

Kazet - Mahlathini And The Mahotella Queens (I'm sure they have other great songs; I just dig their dynamics. Mahlathini is gone, but the ladies still peform)

Yay! I still have so many of these on cassette - all off the SA Top 20 - so the intro and outro is always missing, edited out along with the voiceover!

I want to add "The story of a life" by Harry Chapin.

That "Past, Present & Future" was a weird one - set to the melody of The Moonlight Sonata.

Ever see Tommy Tiernan's bit about taping songs off the radio - brilliant!
(Avoid if you're put off by strong language, but he's Irish, so for him it's just language.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdD_8GwaOxI - starts about 1 minute in.

Thanks for the input - keep it coming - he's going to be taking a look at this thread for ideas for upcoming DVDs. I was thinking of that German singer, Sandra, who was the object of my teenage, um, focus.... She had quite a few hits at the time.
