Also eyeing some 515s or 555s, wonder if I'll get a bargain due the ranges being discontinued. Will have a chat to my local retailer today.

Wow, the prices has gone up since I bought mine! I love the 595s, although other than the BD DT-880 I didn't compare them to anything else in the price range at the time. I still think the DT-880s might have had an edge in terms of balance, but I don't regret my purchase one bit.

Hmmm, test driving some HD-515s at the moment. They sound rather good, but I prefer the "weightless" feel of some of the supra-aural Sennheisers.

Surprised that nobody here has tried modding their HD555s to HD595s. Apparently the mod is quite easy to do and involves removing a piece of tape (think article was on Headfonia). My colleague at work is planning to mod his HD555s that way. The two models are already very similar sounding to my ears (subtle differences) so I don't reckon the added expense is worthwhile on the HD595s, unless you manage to find a good deal on one! Anyone have any idea when the updated Sennheiser models will be available?

Bought a set of 555s yesterday and after 24hours playing in they sound fantastic.

I realise they need a lot more time to play in properly but for now I am super happy.

595 mod will come in due time.

I had to replace one of the capsules on my 595 in January and it worked out to R330.  Therefor, even if anyone get an older 555 or 515 you can also consider replacing the capsules with new ones at Sennheiser SA for this price.

This was the most clear evidence to me of burn-in as the left side was the original and the right side was a new one and i thought there was a problem at first with the new one until a bit of burn-in it turned out to be 100%.  If I heard those earphones without the burn-in in a shop I would not have bought them based on that initial sound.

I fully agree with that.

I listened to a set that was already burned in for about 3 days. Switched back to my Ovans for a week and went out  and bought the 555s. Really happy

Listened to an HD595 that was just over 5 years old, blew me over. Very well run in.

Performed the mod on the HD555's (removing foam inside) and they sound a lot better now! Couldn't be happier.
