ipod docking station
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:06:13 am »
hey guys,

In the new year we are going to be buying a ipod classic but not sure what sort of docking station to buy, i wanted to buy one of those stand mounted speakers type thing, my wife want something a bit more portable to put outside under the lapa and to take away on holiday etc.  what do you guys recommend - what make - i want to obviously buy something like a yamaha or a b&w (cant remember the name!!) but not going to spend R8000 on a ipod docking station - that is just rediculous - i can buy a new set of speakers for that price!

where do you recommend i go look / surf?

thanks

Listen to a Harmon Kardon "Go + Play". Its nice and portable and has good bass too.
Cost about R3500.00 on special at various outlets

The B&W  "Zeppelin" is only R8000,00 and to me does not have half the full range of sound that my Go + play has. Also ,everyone who has heard this little machine cant believe how much bass and body this little box makes. Do yourself a favour and listen to one after you have tried all the others.

Don't laugh guys Samson studiodock usb 3i not that portable but easy enough 2 x speakers only, gets rave reviews for it's price can be hooked up to pc via usb,has facilities for sub woofer ,also an aditional line out,i paid less than 2k and they sound fantastic,
ps the 4 i which is the new model doesn't get such good results i don't know why browse the online pro music shops they stock these and will ship

Makro in Crown Mines throwing out Logitech PureFi Anywherre II's for R850 if you want to go real cheap. Check out their 5 star review here:

They felt quite solid when I check them out - didn't get a listen though. They're in the "specials tent" in the parking area.
How much is too much?

Oh ja... dad has the Bose thingy... to me it was much worse than samson 3i / 4i and it costs more

good only for background... music is rated to consume 180 watts... from the drivers used this seems likely. But if you like background tunes, it is OK
