Hi All,
First post here, and I thought I'd query interest on a quote that I'm getting on some transformers.

I'm building a couple of First Watt Amps, and I needed to source some power transformers for them.  Specifically the
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pass-labs/145387-aleph-j-x-amp-project.html

based off the http://www.firstwatt.com/alephj.html

or for those without the stamina to read through the full 100 pages...
http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/firstwatt3/alephj.html

which I intend to do as a dual monoblock design.  And the

http://www.firstwatt.com/f5.html

which i'll make a little more conventionally as an integrated amp.

Now I've queried a quote, but I thought I'd throw a comment out to see in anyone else was interested.  I went looking for  this spec transfo at YEBO and Communica with no joy, so it seems an 18v secondary is a tough ask.  Please feel free to PM me if you've any interest.

Give Toroidal Technologies a call, they'll be able to do a custom job for you.

Pricing is in and it's pretty reasonable @ R378 +vat.  I've had a chat with another member here and they've queried on 20V secondaries.  I don't mind really, so I'm happy with that also.

Discounts are available for runs of over 10 identical transfo's so if anyone is interested, please let me know.

Oh, and other questions I've got about heatsinks and suchlike - http://www.powerdevices.co.za/Heatsinks.htm looks pretty hopeful although I'm yet to contact them, and AP electronics has more extruded aluminium in a room in their store than I've ever seen... And no-one to cut them to size so your mileage may vary!

Powerdevices aren't really keen on selling to the public. The last time I was there, I had to ask real nice. You can get those same profiles from Mantech.

For heatsinks don't overlook www.semikron.co.za Been a while but they have always been very accommodating with small orders and cut to the length you want. For the Pass amps your order might not be all that small ;) They have a booklet with specs and curves for free-air and forced-air etc for the different profiles. The locally extruded ones are cheaper and more available.

You will probably also find that their website is about as boogered as such a thing can be, but give them a call on zero one two 345 6060. Hopefully they have the booklet in electronic form and can email it to you or so. They're actually a lot better at their game than whoever knocked their site together.

More contact details at http://www.semikron.com/skcompub/en/south_africa-1881.htm
