I also have a HTPC, but got the Mede8ter as it is hopefully more "wife friendly".
Am I the only one here with stickers on all his gear so that the wife can operate the system by herself?

hehehe - get her a Harmony ........

Sorry for the OT.

It seems that Mede8er is accepted as just about the best in it's class. Not sure if that's internationally or just on this forum.
If one also want to be able to record ala a PVR, what route should one take then? The box would need a tuner and timer function...
I read in AVSA that the latest LED TV from Samsung can do PVR duties if you plug in an external HD, interesting...

Thanks
Leon

My Samsung, too (LA40B650 LCD)! However, I don't know how far back (to which earlier models) this functionality extends.

I have sold my WDTV to my brother-in-law. While I am waiting for my Mede8er to arrive, we are using the Samsung's built-in media player.

There are "mede8er" type devices branded "AC Ryan" in various versions. In fact they are virtually identical inside and out. Look at the chassis and remotes even for the Play-On device. The AC Ryan devices have green buttons as opposed to blue though.

Anywho - A.C. Ryan have a version that records tv with a built in dvb-t tuner - but that is not very usefull here in sa unless dstv start broadcasting on terestrial - which is unlikely. There is also no decision at the moment as to what digital stanadrd SA is going with.
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.
