I almost feel that you need to go into this hobby EXPECTING to lose money in the long run.
You buy something for x, use it for a while, then sell it for x minus y. Pass on the goodness.
Out of the 20 odd pieces that I've sold over the years, I think I've only sold one for the same price.
Everything else I've sold at a 'loss', though it's not really a loss, because to someone else it's a win.
And someone else's 'loss' is my win. Round and round we go.
Besides, I've also found that if you're very firm on your price, then sure, you'll sell eventually, but by then that other thing you wanted to buy with the money from the first sale is long gone.
But that's just me. Probably a good thing I'm not the CEO of a company.
BTW, no hard feelings RE the guys who do try to make a few Rand here and there. It IS a free market, and I doubt anyone buys anything that they didn't think was worth it anyway, even if the price has been notched up a bit.
Everybody wins, as long as we all get to try some new stuff from time to time.
