Lira - First South African Concert in Full HD 1080p
« on: September 13, 2010, 02:30:57 pm »
Just got this in from Sony Music, thought it might be of interest:

LIRA
LIVE IN CONCERT: A CELEBRATION

INFORMATION SHEET

•   Lira’s concert was recorded live at Carnival City on 21 August 2009 for release on audio CD (Release date: 5 October) and DVD (Release Date: 9 November). Featuring all Lira’s hits and favourites spanning the last two albums.

•   This is the first live concert DVD ever to be recorded on RED advanced HD camera to come out of SA. The visual aesthetic is further enhanced by the inclusion of a relatively progressive and interactive menu set-up.

•   Mastered in full HD, the DVD will also include a special “making of” documentary feature, with bonus material in the form of music videos and interview footage.

•   The RED ONE camera uses a digital file transfer workflow, extremely different to traditional tape based HD postproduction workflows and delivers the highest quality footage imaginable.

•   A total of ten RED ONE HD digital cameras were used to record Lira’s concert.

•   The audio CD will include bonus tracks unique to this release and has been mastered in Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo

Hi Andrew,

i hate to be the one to ask this kinda obvious question...

but what up with the points 2-5 if the show is only being released on CD and DVD? surely there needs to be a BD release to make full use of the HD footage and higher quality sound?
 ??? ???

Hi,

The press release doesn't mention it for some reason, but yes, it is available in Blu-ray.

Ah, i see... might just have to give it a spin in the ol' BD player! i'll have a look out for it at the local Look& Listen.

on a completely different note though - its a worrying factor that Sony are sending out a press release about a new album, raving on about HD, and then completely forgetting to mention its on BD?! If i can be honest, and this is my opinion, it kinda sums up the entire AV industry in SA - sure there are certain people who know exactly what's what, and who are clued up on all the details of setup, calibration etc, but to average joe - he doesn't know the difference. sad really.

oh well... at least we stay ahead of the game with our products...

I'm a sucker for concerts on Blu-ray.  I'm willing to give this one a shot, especially as it's a local artist.   ;D

There will apparently also be a HD recording of a Mango Groove concert during this year. I don't know if the same technology will be used though.

There was a stage that I really enjoyed Mango Groove, but I have been weaned ;) I agree with the bands you mention as it will hopefully be of a better recording quality than their CDs(which are downright kak)

Just a word from my side...

Mango Grooves 1994' album "Another Country" has been recorded at BOP to the highest standards.
Just Jingers "This Time Round" as well
Springbok Nude Girls - Surpass the powers
Davids Confession - About time
SSQ - Renaissance
SSQ - Zebra Crossing

Go listen to this albums again - you can hear the liveliness of the Hidley Rooms on these albums.

Google "TOM HIDLEY STUDIOS"
Over 3000 posts and counting...

I agree about Another Country and I was generalising to include Just Jinger's recordings, but I have two CDs of The Parlotones, Watershed, Prime Circle and the recording quality is not very good, irrespective of where it was recorded and how :-X
