WMP lossless
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:56:29 am »
Hi guys
Probably been debated many times and I've searched the forum for some previous threads but in a nutshell, if I want to now transfer my cd collection onto my Mede8er and I only have Windows Media Player as the program to rip from, would it be best to use the Windows Media Audio Lossless to get the best quality transfer from cd to laptop to Mede8er or will I not pick up the difference if I rather ripped to the standard WMP MP3 format?
Cheers
Daniel

Thanks Mervin. I just ripped a cd and copied the files across to the Mede8er and when I try to play them, the Mede8er says invalid music file? Any suggestions?

Waht is the exact format you are using - under options it should be WMA Lossless... I will have to check my mede8er as well to make sure as I use Squeezebox as default.

Thats exactly the setting that I am using. To transfer the files, I highlighted the album tracks, went to 'find location', highlighted the tracks in that location and then copied and pasted into the 'music' folder on the Mede8er. It took about 60sec to transfer the files across and they show on the Mede8er but just won't play.

Ag, I'm so moeg already that I'm just going to stick with WMP and I have found that the WAV lossless format of ripping is accepted by the Mede8er so gonna stick with this format as I cannot get Windows Audio lossless just won't work on Mede8er....

Sorry Daniel, saw that as well on mine. Does not support lossless WMA.  Running firmware 3.0.4.  I ran FLAC before on it and that was fine.

Is use WAV Losless and Flac Losless- both sing on the MEd8er- WAV when im ripping a CD  via the PC (Windows media player)FLac when I do web downloads. Cross conversion is no issue i you feel the need- but there really is no reason since both formats are supported on the Med8er

Yep, but Flac lossless takes up a lot less space than WAV does.

100% Agreed- but Windows media doesnt support FLAC - you can get codecs to playback forfree and at the cost of memory now its not really an issue its which ever format is the most conveniant for your software.
