Tafelberg AV Sale 15% off

Just got a mail from Tafelberg furnishers. 15% off all audio components and speakers. Probably to coincide with the Homemakers expo happening this weekend. Apparently there will be a sound emporium. I wonder who else is gonna have some specials.

Was there last night - if by Sound Emporium they mean an over priced AudioVision stand - then yes

I was chatting to one of the AV guys about my setup and mentioned I was looking at projector, he recommended I buy their show special Optoma HD20 @ R20,000   As I walked away one of the other 'customers' mentioned that a small AV shop in Constantia is having a closing sale and have the Optoma HD20 priced at R12,500 - which seems like a REALLY good price, and is very tempting. (quick disclaimer, he couldn't tell me where or what the store was called, just that it was in a small shopping centre, so I'll head out that side this weekend and see what I can find)

Tafelberg were mainly doing gas stoves/fridges/etc.

Saw two nice potential couches for my AV room...

All in all - I have a list of about R100,000 worth of products we liked, now I need to decide how much of that I want.

  was hoping there would be some AV specials. Ah well I'm still going to homemakers anyway as I also need to do some shopping and research. Renovations are starting in November. Hope there will be some money left for getting some AV stuff. I'm not in the audiophile league as most of the forum members, just want a decent setup for home theatre and gaming.

Constantia Village is close by so will go make a turn there this weekend too. Thanks for the tips.

Maybe we were early - but the only AV stand I saw was a pretty big AudioVision one.... and the prices did not impress.

Numb nuts there also told me to sell my RTI A9 setup for the way better KEF Q50/5 series speakers.

-I hate condescending sales people. It's not about what you own, but how it sounds to your own ears!! And all of us have different brand preference and "eartastes!"

Not just that - I've found AudioVision sales staff to have a very weak knowledge of their products.

I find thats the case with most retailers actually.

The worst part is people get ripped of because of this - I know I'm new at this - but fortunately I usually check everything before hand on the internet. :p

I was fortunate with AudioVision in Canal Walk. The salesman I got turned out to be a moonlighting/struggling musician... He loved his music. So between what I took into the store to demo and what he had we spent a good part of three hours demo'ing various equipment combinations... My end purchase was small (5500) by their big ticket standards... What really impressed me was that I walked in there a year later and the rep still remembered me and asked how I was enjoying the system...

A rare case. Probably...

I have found some of the 'top end' shops to be snooty... It often feels like the rep is 'tolerating' your questions... A 'well if you not here to stump up 100k on equipment - please don't waste my time' attitude...
