October cover feature...

Though our feature focuses on this remarkable television and its technology. If I could have got it into my car I would have taken it home..... Actually, come to think of it, maybe I would have just sold it and paid my car off in one go AND had plenty of money left over, hehehe!  ;D

certainly a hi-tech tv though.

I wonder how much that remote adds to the cost of the TV?

Yea, it certainly looks very nice, and that's what Samsung's efforts were obviously focused on with this set. There's nothing picture quality wise this set has over the lower end Samsung sets, the top of the line Samsung is edge-lit? Come on. All the money went into the nice brushed aluminium design and the clumsy but slick looking remote. Picture performance is average with no accurate presets and there's not even a 1:1 pixel ratio option.

I calls 'em like I see 'em. Nothing wrong with Samsung products, I quite like them. I just see no performance related reason to go for this over the 8000.

Haven't seen the 8000. Is it available your end of the world? I think Samsung may have jumped that series here, or they are planning to launch it a bit later.

The 8000 has been available for a few months already, the 9000 is just coming out now. It looks like the 8000 is also available in SA:

My samsung plasma has a zoom mode called screen fit that gives 1:1 ratio. Why would this newer screen not have it?

I didn't discover this for myself, I read it in the Home Cinema Choice review but I can't imagine they'd make such a big mistake. The set definitely isn't a picture quality first set though, colour temp in normal mode is 10 500k, and the warmest setting (warm 2) is still 7000k. The fact that it also doesn't offer local dimming at the price also seems crazy to me.
