A long time ago Yamaha made a AVR amp called an A-2070 ,which sold for a lot of money then. I was fooled by all the hype of the time to buy one of these, which I still have , by the way. I never was impressed by the musical or HT sound of this amp but because it cost me so much I kept it.I bought a Harmon Kardon amp for much less which gave me the sound I wanted ,musically and HT wise. Affirmative shopping one night took this amp but left the Yamaha.I replaced the stolen HK with a denon, which also gave me good sound in both forms, music and HT.Affirmative shopping about a year later took my Denon away, and still the Yamaha was left behind. Tell me ,do the affirmative shoppers know something that we dont ? as far as Yamaha is concerned? I know exactly what you mean by being disappointed in the Yamaha "upgrade" and although I have tried every form of cable with batteries etc, the yamaha keeps giving me its unacceptabl to me, "natural sound".

My 2c worth. and my sympathy

Quite! ;D Regarding Jakes' post about the Cambridge Audio, I am a fan of CA products as they seem to have a lot more balls than comparable products.

Okay Burt, once you have read through all the off-topic replies, enlighten us to what your expectations were and what you consider to be the short-comings of your Yamaha. Despite what it may seem like, we do sometimes provide decent answers ;)

Just goes to show, even affirmative shoppers know quality(or lack of) when they see it ;D

They won't take those either. Too heavy to carry ;)

But in a different league from what I have been told ;)

Most CA's have those as standard equipment as well.

I've had my Yamaha for years now...home and car loans have stopped me from indulging in my passion  :'(  But I've always been a bit of a bass head, and have to admit that it took me quite some time and tweaking before I got used to its 'bass light' tendency. But then I have to point out that it's more likely the fault of the Tannoy fronts I have, which I actually hated for months after I bought them, before I got used to their sound.

Nope, its most likely the Yamaha signature sound. It tends to be less balsy than some others.

Andrew, I have a set of tannoys that i drive with a pair of Quad 11 mono's and the sound is nothing short of breathtaking ,not only to me but to guests as well. Believe me it is not the tannoys that are a compromising sound, it is the Yam amp. I have tried my tannoys with my Yam amp also and it sounds like GRIT or s**t .

Lol, the sound isn't that bad!  ;D But I must admit, I do miss a bit more 'punch' to my sound. If I am going to listen to music I quite often turn the sub on, and then I enjoy the delivery more. But...then some here will call me a pleb for liking my bass so much!  ;)

Edit: Effing keyboard keeps leaving off my second 'l' on everything...
