I like strong bass not boom but nice deep low down bass I am running a pair of warfdale 9.5 floor stands and an old Jamo sw505 e sub and I love the sound so I would consider the 10.6 warfies and if you need more bass add a sub.
But I am no expert just my humble opinion

My experience with the Wharfedales - you won't need a sub right away.  Big Bass, but lacking in subtlety.  Good all-rounders for the price.

At the end of the day, it's gonna be up to the individual taste, I'm afraid.  Plus, I'm not sure if Hi-Fi Corp still stocks it.  Elsewhere they retail for R5100.

If you're upping your amp, then I'd suggest you also up your speakers

or hang in there.  One of the bargains are the Wharfedale Opus2-1.  Beautifully finished in piano black, can be tri-amped, sounds great and you won't need a sub.  Price came down from R11 999 to I think R6 999, out of your budget maybe but keep popping in at Hi-Fi Corp to see if they have dropped it further.

That is a bargain. Opus is a serious bit of kit.

They do not stock the Opus anymore, Atturbury still has a set, but its a bit f***ed and thet want R11000 for it!  ::)
I had a pair and cannot say that I was all that impressed with it.

Ps. I got mine from them about 2 years ago for R7000 (brand new, double boxed and all), when they had the 25% discount at the time.

Give this serious consideration.  I can't see them lasting long.  Regards:

Thanks for the heads up Brett,

Got in touch, and will see what happens - even though you guys have got me all worried about floorstanders now!

Will keep you posted,

Nico

Hificorp, Montana has got 2 pairs Monitor Audio BR5's, going for R 3499.
I got a pair of Warfedale Diamond 10.1's yesterday for R 1799.

I picked up my Mission M33i Floorstanders for 2.5k so there are options out there.  :)

There's no problem with floorstanders.  The issue is that one shouldn't think that 'bookshelves' are any less capable of delivering good audio just because they're smaller.  You'd be surprised how some standmounters can put floorstanders to shame.  Bigger ain't always better.  If you get a good set of floorstanders, there's no reason why you shouldn't consider them.
