external HD(USB) on PS3
« on: August 22, 2010, 02:10:21 pm »
Good day all,

I hope I posted under the correct umbrella...

My PS does not see my external HD via USB, this is an old HD with external power...however it does see the "normal flash stick", further more, my laptop has no issued with both.

Any ideas what could cause this?

YUP thats the max partition size for FAT32 and only a max file size of 4Gb - no good for HD

Had same problem with my xBox but the xBox reads Mac partitions no problem, and no partition size limitation, doubt if it works on PS3 tho

32Gb is not the max for Fat32, I think it goes up to around 1.5Tb but you'd need to use a 3rd party app to format the drive. The file size limit is 4Gb though so you have to use an app such as mkv2vob to split them into 4gb chunks.

The Xbox360 can't use NTFS either but you can overcome the 4Gb limit by formatting HFS+ ...but then it's still not very good as a media player.

I've done 500GB on FAT32.

You also get stuff like Swissknife that does it.

Yep, as I've said 1.5TB is the limit for Fat32 but it's still extremely annoying not being able to copy files larger than 4GB to it.

Would be cool if they could port XBMC to the PS3.
