Philips 42PFL7409xx

Hey guys,

I have this TV and it has some irritating functions which I do not know how to switch off or get rid of.

1. The screen format keeps on changing with every program or channel (at times it changes for the worse option)
2. On the 16:9 ratio, the MM2 an parental guide would be in the middle of the screen (as if it was set for a small TV)
3. On the wide screen setting, there is "usually some dashed lines(horizontal) on the top left side of the screen. This is more evident on MM2

Anyone with the same TV and sickness?

If you are still using the "older" model Dual View/PVR Decoders, then you will have this problem.
I also experience this, and phoning DSTV, they informed me that only certain channels are 16:9, so it is best to set up the decoder for normal 4:3 ratio.

They have no plans to fix this, e.g. SW Upgrade and the only remedy for this is to buy a HD Decoder.
Talk about sales pitch!!

Look to see if there is an option, under 'screen settings' on the television, to change the 'auto' for screen size to 'off'. DStv weren't awfully sharp - they introduced widescreen on Action and a few other channels, and only after a slew of complaints did they finally start putting out adverts on how to get around the issue. I read this option on another forum, and most people who were experiencing it solved it by turning the Auto Screen Size option on their televisions to 'off'.

Stupid Q and no offence intended, but how do these topics always end up in the "AVSA discussion?"
