I'm a bit of a newbie ... don't understand the Thiele-Small parameters yet.

I want to make a pair of audiophile (or as close as possible) bookshelf speakers .... would these be suitable woofers?

Firstly welcome to the forum Mike, TS parameters can be used to predict behavior of a certain driver in a certain type/size enclosure.
Most commonly used is WinISD which is free to use.  One can then adjust the box parameters and type to your liking and then decide if
this is what you wish to accomplish.

Depends on your definition of Audiophile. These are dedicated woofers, and will not produce sufficiently good midrange sound if your intention is  to mate it to a tweeter.See here http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,5868.0.html for a typical implementation.

My previous build was based on a pair of Fostex FE206E's, which was great because I didn't have to worry much about crossovers (just a supertweeter with a cap cutting in at about 16k!).
I think I'll graduate to a conventional two-way next, so will have to wait for a set of drivers with more extended response to come up....

Too little displacement, I think. And probably too low Qts (maybe Ian/Martin can add some info here).
