FS: Apogee Mini-DAC and accessories
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:25:19 pm »
The time has finally come to upgrade my DAC, and it is with a heavy heart that I offer my existing Apogee Mini-DAC to help fund the new kid. It is in excellent condition, always well looked-after and kept dust-free. Inputs include coax, optical and AES, outputs are fixed or variable balanced as well as single-ended. It also features a very capable headphone amplifier. Extremely versatile, to say the least! Supported sample rates are up to 192kHz over coax / AES, and up to 96kHz over optical. If used with a computer source the sampling rate indicators are invaluable to ensure your PC is set up properly for bit-transparent playback. I've compared it with several DACs such as the Benchmark DAC1, Proceed DAP and Wadia 2000, and IMO the Apogee comes out on top. The Benchmark comes close but sounds a little dry in comparison. The Mini-DAC is very highly regarded and if you hit Google you'll see countless favourable reactions. It cost a little over R10 000 new, I'm asking R6500.

Also up for grabs is an m2Tech HiFace USB to SPDIF converter, great for turning your PC into a truly kickass transport. Supports sample rates up to 192kHz. Literally as new, just enough time on it to be run in. Again Google will tell you how awesome it is. New R1350, asking R1000

Lastly, a Cardas iLink interconnect for connecting the Apogee to amplifier. Also in lovely condition - no wear, scuffs or beer stains. The nicest cable of its type I reckon compared to those from Kimber, AudioQuest etc. New R1300, asking R800.

Alternatively, R7900 for the whole lot plus I'll toss in an AudioQuest coax cable. Connect to a PC and bam! instant audiophile media server. Feel free to contact me with questions or for a demo.

Hi Tachyon, am interested in the m2Tech HiFace USB to SPDIF converter - PM sent.
Where-abouts are you located? Would like to hear the Apogee as well if possible...
