Grado SR80i Woody Mod - Wood worker\crafter required.
« on: August 12, 2010, 03:34:40 pm »
Hi, guys.

I'm considering having my Grado SR80i's woody modded.

There are some guys (JMoney, Headphile, Ruddy) that offer this service internationally, but I'm looking for someone a little closer to home (i.e. CPT preferably).

Have anyone here done a mod like this or know of a reputable wood worker that would be able to order and work with exotic wood such as Gaboon Ebony for exapmle.  Thanks in advance.

Our own Mafioso can help, I believe. He'll even build you a complete new cartridge for the right price.

What benefit do you expect?

There's a silly thread over at VE with blokes pouring anything from old vaaljapie tractor oil to molasses to brooklaxed rat droppings into Grado carts for some mysterious, subjective 'improvements'. Or is it the 'look' you're after?

I believe Gradoman would be referring to these rather than cartridges  ;D:

That be one uggerly cartridge! ;D

I believe the recommendation still stands, though. The things the man can do with the stuff people chuck out... the mind boggles.

Hi

I really think I put my foot in it, sorry :-[

There are some very skilled guys working with exotic wood here in Cape Town, known as the "Wood Turners". Some of the guys at the CTSMEE are members there too. Try calling Darryl Bailey at 021 595 2095 who is a member of the Wood Turners. I doubt if Darryl will do the job for you as he runs an engineering firm. However, Mr Bailey may be able to give you a contact number for someone at the Wood Turners able to do so.

Hi, guys.

Heh, I can already see that I'm going to enjoy this forum.  ;D

@ mafioso, thanks.  I'll give him a call and hear what he says.  Below is basically what I'm after.  Very simple cup mod, using Gaboon Ebony.  Leather headband I'm having done by Woodheads Leather and cable mod I can do myself.
