Hi all :)

I'm hoping to get my mitts on a two temperature-controlled soldering irons and a basic bench power supply. I have a reasonable budget, but I'd rather buy good quality used equipment than crappy new stuff.

And it's for a darn good reason - my cunning plan to get my girlfriend into hi-fi has worked better than I ever hoped  ;D. This means I no longer have to consider the dreaded WAF when it comes to new kit. The best part is she has now expressed interest in building her own gear, which I wholeheartedly support. I'm going to start her on a cheapass amp kit from Electronics123 while I build a gainclone, and if all goes well some better stuff in future.

I no longer have my own equipment, hence the need to get some. If anyone has any of the above that they'd like some $$$ for, please give me a shout.

Mucho gracias!

Grr no edit button... to clarify, I'm after two (2) irons and one (1) power supply.

Oh yeah, and an automatic beer-fetching robot if anyone has one ;)

Cool! :D My advice, don't skimp on the kit for your wife, get her a pretty looking gainclone kit too; easy on the skills and on the eye, then mount it in a shiny enclosure to seal the addiction ;) As they say, first impressions last...

For bench PSUs, try http://www.rectifier.co.za (they also have lots of other nifty things). Not affiliated to them, just a happy customer.

That was the original idea, but she said she's rather start with something cheap and essentially disposable before tackling something she'll actually use. When she does move up, I was thinking of one of the AudioSector amps - but if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear 'em :)

Awesome, thanks a lot! If I don't come right with some used gear I'll give them a shout.

Bought one of these at RS Electronics for R800 odd. Clean, simple and works like a charm...

When did you buy it for R800?
Seems quite a bit more expensive nowadays:

That is ridiculously cheap - especially consideing that RS is usually higher-price outlet.
Yet it looks so good.

Yup, I was also very, very tempted. There's nothing wrong with my Weller, although cosmetically you can see it's worked pretty hard :D

I'm very pleased with this one I got From Rabtron for about R600. No regrets whatsoever.

Not sure why they say price on request now.
