Onkyo tx sr 608
« on: July 19, 2010, 01:53:58 pm »
Good day all

I hope that you guys can help me !

I am in the process of buying a Onkyo tx sr 608 , I have selected the product , now I have to select the dealer !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have done some shopping around and would like it if you could recommend dealers . I live in Sandton but don't mind a drive as i know the area code can add a premium to the price .

I might be uttering a swear word here , but has anyone bought an amp online and shipped it in , doing a direct currency conversion is all good and well but I am not sure what the other costs will be , namely shipping ( there are calculators on sites) vat @ 14% but i am not sure what import duty the will hit me with ? :-\

for Onkyo I suggest you contact out forum member, Goneten. He's a dealer, and I've had some pretty good service from him.

my few cents worth...

I bought my 508 from Sounds Great in the Centurion Mall.  Service was not bad but the price was great!!

I bought this receiver in April 2010.  Would like to know the views of anyone who owns one.  Seems like all other brands still have to launch their 3d ready receivers.

Uhm, Luxman, have you auditioned the Onkyo?

I don't mean that its a bad choice(not at all), but you have to live with the AVR and should enjoy its sonic signature.
Don't take life too seriously, you will not make it out alive.....

If its an Onkyo, you wont be disappointed, they have the edge - they are like bmw in a way...
There is something unique and special about that company and their products...

I bought the Onkyo 608 in April.  Had the Rotel RSX1067 and found it to laidback for movies, did not have the oomph or excitement, set up was a pain inputs were limited so was the HDMI.  Bought the Onkyo after listening to the Denon 1910 and a Marantz.  The Onkyo was great with movies, and the processing was fantastic, I can basically control all sources, even DSTV with the Onkyo.  Haven;t done a comparison on the upscaling but have seen difference on some channels

CONS
It is NOT the most musical receiver (this is where the Rotel shone),
no back lit remote
no inputs for power amps (took this into account when I bought it)

PROS
Fantastic processing and speed
Runs cool
Great set up - only adjusted the centre speaker
