In lighter vein:

Judged in the light of a $650K quoted somewhere else for just an amplifier, my system of preference would consist of all of 50 separates for perfect stereo: All live members of a symphony orchestra with their instruments and a conductor.  ...will be hard to beat, that!

Again, one will need a room ....

Is a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder the best car when you live on a farm in Mpumalanga? Maybe not. Would I prefer a Series II SWB for those farm roads? Maybe. Are they both the best for their purpose? Maybe. Would a Range Rover Sport be a good compromise? Probably. So, as a previous post said...maybe most desirable:

Amplifier:
Graaf GM 200 OTL
Audionote Gakuoh (Japanese version)

Loudspeaker:
Magico Q5
Tannoy Westminster Royal SE
And yes, my old 57s :)

Source:
Clearaudio Master Reference
Emmlabs CD

Would these components work together within their respective frameworks? I'd LOVE to find out  ;D

The only way to answer this question is with a dream system :

Source : Esoteric P-01 Transport, 2 X Esoteric D-01 Mono DACs, Esoteric G-0Rb Master Clock Generator
   (http://esoteric.teac.com/)
Amplification : BAlabo BC-1 MK-II Pre-Amp, BAlabo BP-1 MK-II Power Amp
   (http://www.balabo.com/)
Speakers : Sonus Faber Amati Anniversario

And to fly the SA flag
A VA Genisis PRE and Power (part of the way there as soon as The Spyder man can deliver ;D) and a Whisper
A set of Sonor Procyons and Still undecided about source components, but would probably opt for a media streamer and decent DAC in addition to a good TT. (and some more room treatment)

Of course you could spend a whole lot more, on equipment that may sound a little better, but even in my dreams I would use the money saved on not buying stupidly expensive products to buy a ton of music. Afterall what's the use of having a dream system if you have no music to play on it.

Sounds delightful! I suppose on the "good TT" you could fit a Blue Angel cart?

And apart from the Blue winged one, everything would sit on stands made by a forum member and some of his peers.
Now isnt there a gent in the Bloem area that makes some fine cable too?

Throw in more time to listen to music for pleasure and not for work and my system would be just about complete.

My Dream system:
-is Digital by nature
-entertains me with liberated (accessable) content and finds new content for me that I may like - mainly music, but also movies, podcasts, news, etc
-makes available in more than one room (and on demand) my entertainment library
-brings a new dimension to my memories and entertainment experience by having the ability to visually showcase my art and memories (photographs and videos) at the same time as giving pleasure to my ears.
-reproduces High quality music and visuals (subjective I know) that can be enjoyed by my friends and family for many hours.
-adapts easily to new technology - is modular in design
-has minimal impact on the environment - uses little electricity and is preferably small and intelligently made so that transport is easy and cheap and repairs not often required.
-is visually pleasing in itself
-the associated content needs to be mobile for those longer times away from home

The components of my ideal setup would be:
Sources:
An AppleTV with less limitations and better quality (there are many one box wonders, but I like this one best, despite that fact that it is tied to a large computer company)
A super-fast internet connection (for legal high bitrate downloads that have a workable DRM facility, not tying you to a specific vendor)

Power Amplification:
Jeff Rowland 501's (quality, size, design, etc)

Pre-amplifier:
If they made the AppleTV so that it included a good DAC and volume control I would use this, but they don't. For the moment a GOOD AV Processor will do - I would have to say: Something geared for multi-format listening and viewing that enables visitors to also share their own content - Anthem Statement comes to mind, it is quite big though and ugly as sin...

Speakers:
B&W 800D's for mains. They are some of the most beautiful creations ever and sound amasing also. I also think you will only buy this and never to to upgrade again in your lifetime as far as speakers go

  • Criss-cross rhythms that explode with happiness
    • Elipse (under construction)
I like the look of these ...  http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Black%20Box.html

I have the tweeter and mid in a project (not completed) that uses their 8" woofer. Would love to do it with a 10", though.

Vivid Giya
VA Genisis Pre and Power (one for each speaker)

Vh Audio symmetry Inter connects and Chela speaker cable
PS Audio Power Centre and power cables
Sound Structure Equipment stand
Custom built stereo room with one leather couch to sit on

We can only dream
