What causes foam to perish?
« on: July 06, 2010, 07:55:18 pm »
Strange...my Sennheiser HD433s - only one of the foam pads has perished, the other one looks fine. What causes foam to perish?

One ear is more acidic than the other.

My spectacles have corroded equally. Might be the only aspect of me that is balanced. This is becoming a sick topic. :)

UV and heat is the most common cause , however some foams will always perish or disintegrate over time , depending on its composition.
You need to "burn in" your phones to get back to the same sound if you changer the foam pads. What I mean is you actually have to listen for some time as the new foams wont compress or be "as shaped" as the old stuff.
You can store your headphones on a styrene dummy head which also helps "reform" the foam.
The nicest thing about smacking your head against the wall is......the feeling you get when you stop.
